Emerging Perspectives on Urban Morphology: Researching and Learning through multiple practices

EPUM is an international research project which aims at the integration of different urban form research and teaching approaches through pedagogic innovation and Information and Communication Technology (ICT). The activities of this 28 months project (2017-2020) are funded by Erasmus+ and focus on the development of an innovative, open and inclusive system of teaching and training in urban form from a multidisciplinary perspective, capable of enabling the current and future generation of planning and design professionals to address comprehensively and effectively the variety of issues and challenges faced by contemporary cities. This website provides information about the project activities to partners and to other parties interested in the work of the project.

Workshops

Two transnational intensive summer workshops will be the key events of the project’s implementation phase. Aimed at learners they will form the basis of the development and delivery of the shared curriculum, of the delivery and evaluation of learning activities, as well as offering the physical and virtual environments fostering research and pedagogical networks, effectively addressing the project’s objectives.

1st International Intensive Workshop_Porto_September 2018. This workshop will focus on the teaching and learning of the various approaches by intertwining the activities that are normally carried out within the programmes at each partner institution with collaborative tasks among the institutions. It will focus on the combination of methods to develop a multidisciplinary analysis of the urban form and on the collaborative processes that lead to the production of an open learning curriculum. The case study of Porto will be used to develop and build knowledge of the various approaches on urban form studies and to perform the learning tasks related to each approach and their combination. 2nd International Intensive Workshop_Nicosia_June 2019. This workshop will focus on the study of urban form and public space from a multidisciplinary perspective, with the participation of multiple stakeholders – here the core of the learning activities will take place through the exploitation of the physical space along with the virtual resources developed through the project’s Intellectual Outcomes. This workshop will consist of a combination of physical and virtual lectures, practical group learning and design tasks and critical discussions between learners and other stakeholders, including professionals, local authorities, local communities and organisations. The case study of Limassol will be used to develop and build knowledge of the full potential of a blended learning environment.
