CS Other Presentations

Department of Computer Science - University of Cyprus

Besides Colloquiums, the Department of Computer Science at the University of Cyprus also holds Other Presentations (Research Seminars, PhD Defenses, Short Term Courses, Demonstrations, etc.). These presentations are given by scientists who aim to present preliminary results of their research work and/or other technical material. Other Presentations serve as a forum for educating Computer Science students and related announcements are disseminated to the Department of Computer Science (i.e., the csall list):

Abstract:
This talk demonstrates the results of the ViDaPe project that has just been completed; the main scope of ViDaPe is to synthesize movements between real and virtual characters so as to compose a contemporary dance scenario based on their improvisation and interlinked actions. The system can be adjusted dynamically according to the performers' actions and responses, offering the maximum possible interaction. At the end of the presentation will follow a demonstration of the PhaseSpace motion capture system.

Short Bio:
Dr Andreas Aristidou is a post-doc researcher associated with the Department of Computer Science, University of Cyprus and an affiliated researcher at the Department of Multimedia and Graphic Arts, Cyprus University of Technology. Andreas has been awarded the ΔΙΔΑΚΤΩΡ fellowship, by the Cyprus Research Promotion Foundation, to establish research in motion analysis and classification. He has been also awarded the Office of Naval Research Global (ONRG) Visiting Scientist Program (VSP) scholarship to visit PhaseSpace Inc. offices in San Diego, CA, USA, in order to be trained in the new PhaseSpace mocap systems and gain experiences in relative subjects; he continues to collaborate with PhaseSpace Inc., a leading company that offers motion capture solutions for motion tracking and positioning, and he establishes his own motion capture laboratory at the Graphics and Virtual Reality Lab, University of Cyprus. Andreas has participated in a number of EU funded projects, including the SIM.POL.VR (Virtual Reality Police Simulator) (at the University of Cyprus). In addition, he collaborates with Unity 3d for the design of computer games, incorporating human-like Inverse Kinematic constraints. He had been a Cambridge European Trust fellow, at the Signal Processing and Communications Laboratory Information Engineering Division, Department of Engineering, University of Cambridge, where he obtained his PhD under the supervision of Dr Joan Lasenby (2011). Andreas has a BSc in Informatics and Telecommunications from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (2005) and he is an honour graduate of Kings College London (2006), where he obtained his MSc degree in Mobile and Personal Communications. His main interests are focused on 3D Motion Analysis and classification, human animation and involves Optical Motion Capture, Real Time Marker prediction and CoR estimation, Inverse Kinematics, filtering and Applications of Geometric Algebra in Engineering.
