2 Special Scientists Positions, SEIT Lab, Department of Computer Science, University of Cyprus

Title: Special Scientist

Location: University of Cyprus, Nicosia

The research laboratory of Software Engineering and Internet Technologies (SEIT) of the Department of Computer Science, University of Cyprus, announces two part time positions:

  • One Special Scientist (Research/Management): 80-100 hours/month
  • One Special Scientist (Research/Development): 40-60 hours/month

The selected candidates will work on the Erasmus+ programme IDEA (Innovative Direction in Energy Advising - Strategic Partnerships for adult education, SEIT role: Coordinator), for the Erasmus+ programme EPUM (Emerging Perspectives on Urban Morphology: Researching and Learning through multiple practices, SEIT role: Partner), and for the JUST programme INFORM (INtroduction of the data protection reFORM to the judicial system, SEIT role: Partner).

SEIT focuses its research activities on two important areas of Information Technology, namely Software Engineering and Internet Technologies. More information can be found in the SEIT Lab website: http://www.cs.ucy.ac.cy/seit.

QUALIFICATIONS

Special Scientist (Research/Management)

The candidate is expected to be a highly-motivated individual with proven capability to work in a demanding multi-disciplinary research environment and eager to be actively engaged in the demanding activities of European projects, collaborating efficiently with the SEIT research team. Minimal requirements include,

  1. Master’s Degree in the above mentioned areas.
  2. Experience in management and scientific coordination or research in E.U. funded projects (e.g. Erasmus+, Framework Program, etc).
  3. Proven research work in one or more of the following areas: Technology Enhanced Learning, Educational Technologies, Digital technologies.
  4. Knowledge and experience of web technologies.
  5. Knowledge of the English language

A PhD degree in the above areas will be strongly considered as a favourable qualification.

Special Scientist (Research/Development)

The candidate is expected to be a highly-motivated individual with proven capability to work in a demanding multi-disciplinary research environment and eager to be actively engaged in the demanding activities of European projects, collaborating efficiently with the SEIT research team. Minimal requirements include,

  1. Degree in Computer Science.
  2. Knowledge and experience on Web technologies.
  3. Expertise in ICT, Web development (well-known technologies such as PHP, MySQL, Javascript, HTML5, etc.).
  4. Knowledge of the English language

Expertise in design and development of e-learning platforms and experience with Web Frameworks and Content Management Systems (CMS) will be considered as a plus.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Special Scientist (Research/Management)

The successful candidate will need to work on a number of European funded projects. Duties and responsibilities include: project management and coordination (including participation in online and face-to-face meetings), scientific management and contribution, financial reporting, networking.

Moreover, the successful candidate will participate in the preparation of research project proposals in various EU Calls (Erasmus+, H2020, AAL, INTERREG, etc.), and in the co-authoring of research papers.

Special Scientist (Research/Development)

The successful candidate will need to work on requirements analysis, web platform design and development for the above (and other) projects that the SEIT Lab is involved. Moreover, the successful candidate may participate in the preparation of research project proposals in various EU Calls (Erasmus+, H2020, AAL, INTERREG, etc.), and assisting in co-authoring of research papers.

Moderate Travelling is needed for both positions.

EMPLOYMENT TERMS

Special Scientist (Research/Management)

The position is on a contract basis of one year, subject to renewal. The monthly employment cost is equal to € 1600-1800 depending on qualifications. Employee and employer contributions will be deducted from the above amount. The position does not include a 13th Salary bonus or medical insurance coverage.

Special Scientist (Research/Development)

The position is on a contract basis of one year, subject to renewal. The monthly employment cost is equal to € 600-700 depending on qualifications. Employee and employer contributions will be deducted from the above amount. The position does not include a 13th Salary bonus or medical insurance coverage.

Note: Hiring one person on a full-time basis (140 hours/month), instead of two for both the aforementioned roles is possible, provided that the candidate is able to perform the required amount and quality of work both as a Special Scientist (Research/Management) and as a Special Scientist (Research/Development). In such a case, earnings will be combined.
