FP7 STREP Research Program: HARPA (Harnessing Performance Variability)

Research position opening at the University of Cyprus (UCY)

We are inviting applications for a research position (Special Scientist) at UCY to join the EU Framework 7 project HARPA (www.harpa-project.eu).

HARPA is a 3-year (September 2013 - August 2016) STREP project that aims to enable next-generation embedded and high-performance heterogeneous many-cores to cost-effectively confront variations, by providing dependable performance, i.e., correct functionality and timing guarantees throughout the expected lifetime of a platform under thermal, power, and energy constraints. The project is led by the Politecnico di Milano and the consortium includes IMEC, Thales, ICCS (associated with the National Technical University of Athens), UCY, HENESIS, and IT4Innovations. The University of Cyprus is leading the €Monitors, Knobs, and Models€ work package (observing and acting-to-control various phenomena causing performance variability), and is contributing to the other work packages: HARPA Operating System Engine, HARPA Run-Time Engine, Platform-Level Experimental Reliability Modeling and Usage, and Application and Validation.

We are seeking a motivated researcher with a degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Electrical Engineering. A graduate degree will be considered an advantage. Applicants should have extensive knowledge in one of the following areas: Computer Architecture and Fault Tolerance. Previous research experience with on-chip interconnects, memory hierarchy, fault modeling, and simulation environments (e.g., Simics/GEMS/Garnet, Simics/Flexus, gem5, etc.) will be considered an advantage. The post can be combined with graduate study at UCY.

The posts are for one year with the possibility of renewal for another year. The salary will depend on qualifications.

The applicants should submit the following information in electronic format (PDF) -- by email with subject "HARPA Special Scientist at UCY" -- to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.:

(1) A detailed CV,
(2) Contact info for at least two recommendations, and
(3) A one-page research statement.

Applications will be evaluated on a rolling basis starting Friday, 11 October 2013, until the position is filled.
