Implementing Feedback Control for Efficient Autonomic Solutions on the Grid
Speaker: Dr. Rizos Sakellariou
The talk will argue for the need to use autonomic computing techniques to improve performance in volatile environments such as those typically associated with Grids and large-scale distributed computing. The realization of autonomic computing is based on having a feedback loop that monitors the environment, makes assessments and acts if needed. Different approaches to implement this feedback loop, ranging from control theory to utility functions, will be discussed and illustrated with examples drawn from research in the context of a UK project.
Rizos Sakellariou is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Computer Science of the University of Manchester. Before, he was with the Department of Computer Science, Rice University, where he was a member of the dHPF Compiler Group and was involved with the DARPA-funded project POEMS. He was also a Visiting Assistant Professor with the Department of Computer Science, University of Cyprus (Fall 1999), and also held visiting positions with the Department of Computer Science, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (Summer 2000) and the Department of Computer Architecture, Universitat Politecnica de Catalunya (Fall 2002).
