About the logo

The HDMS 2010 logo is inspired for Cyprus' ancient history. The design of the logo was done with the collective efforts of Panickos Neophytou, Areti Papanastasiou and Panos Chrysanthis.

The bird figure is very distinct among bicoloured clay vases which were made in Cyprus during the Iron age (1200-1000 BC). The original vase where the figure comes from is depicted in the following picture:


The first line of symbols seen in the logo comes from the ancient Cypro-Minoan alphabet, which was used in Cyprus during the period roughly between 1500 BC and 300 BC. This alphabet is very similar to Linear A. The second line of symbols consists of numbers in the acrophonic system, which was used in many parts of Greece during the first millenium BC.
