  Short Biography
Elpida Keravnou-Papailiou is Professor of Computer Science at the University of Cyprus. She served as Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs during the period 2002-2006. Previously she was the Dean of the Faculty of Pure and Applied Sciences (1999-2002) and the first Chairperson of the Department of Computer Science (1994-1998). She has also served as President of the Governing Board of the Cyprus University of Technology (2009-2010). She received a B.Tech in Computer Science from Brunel University, UK (1982) and a Ph.D. in Cybernetics from the same University (1985).  She taught in the Department of Computer Science of University College London (Lecturer, 1985-1991 and Senior Lecturer, 1991-1992) and the Department of Computer Science of the University of Cyprus (Associate Professor, 1992-1996). She is Associate Editor of the scientific journal Artificial Intelligence in Medicine (Elsevier).

She has served as Chairperson of the Cyprus Council for the Recognition of Higher Education Qualifications (KY.S.A.T.S.) during the period 2005-2008. She has also served as a member of the Council for Educational Evaluation and Accreditation (S.EK.A.P), during the period 2001-2006, and as a member of the Governing Board of the Cyprus Foundation for National Scholarships (I.K.Y.K), during the period 2003-2006. She also served as a member of the Specialist Committee for Educational Reforms in Cyprus and participated in the Preparatory Committee for the Open University of Cyprus.  Currently she is a member of the Evaluation Committee for Private Universities in Cyprus, serving a second five-year term.

In the context of her responsibilities as Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs, she coordinated the implementation of the Bologna reforms at the University of Cyprus. At present she is a “Bologna Expert” for Cyprus and National Academic Contact Point for Recognition.

  Current Research Interests
She has carried out research in the areas of knowledge engineering, expert systems, deep knowledge models, diagnostic reasoning, temporal representation and reasoning, artificial intelligence in medicine, intelligent data analysis and hybrid decision support systems. More...
