The programme is a contribution to the
historical and archaeological research of Cyprus. The chronological frame
period from the Cypro-Classical era (conventional
beginning is the year ca 500 B.C.) through ca AD 1200, the year
which marks the end of the Byzantine epoch
and the beginning of the Frankish rule.
International research in the history
and the antiquities of Cyprus has a long tradition and has been very productive for decades. However, the results
of this research are scattered in many publications of unequal quality and in many periodicals or they remain unpublished in
the archives of the Department of Antiquities
and the diaries of the excavators. Thus it is almost impossible to have
a comprehensive scholarly control for their
study and their use for research or educational purposes.
