COST-ET: An Estimation and Design Space Exploration Tool for Datacenters TCO

Tutorial Objective

The objective of this tutorial is to introduce you to a new tool for estimating and exploring the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) for datacenters. This tutorial targets students and researchers involved or would like to understand and investigate the datacenter design space.

COST-ET is an estimation and exploration tool to provide qualitative trends of datacenter design choices (servers, racks configurations, etc.) on the total cost of ownership and the environmental impact. During the tutorial we will briefly describe the inputs and outputs of the tool, give an explanation of the framework and explain in detail how the tool can be used with-in wrappers to provide extensive design space exploration for various datacenter parameters.

This tool has been developed by Marios Kleanthous, Damien Hardy, Isidoros Sideris and Yiannakis Sazeides. The research leading to this tool is supported by the European Commission FP7 project "Energy-conscious 3D Server-on-Chip for Green Cloud Services (Project No:247779 "EuroCloud")".
